Getting used to the West Coast…

This post has been a long time in the making. Part of it is because I haven’t had time, part of it because I had so much to write about and so little time to actually dedicate to my blog.

After watching Transformers, a very very fast month of July went by. At the very end, I got the acceptance notice from USC saying that I could start school on August 27th, but I should be there at least a week and a half before that. I was accepted to the USC Viterbi School of Engineering as a Master’s Student of Computer Science with Game Design.

Needless to say, it was a complete rush from there on. I barely had time to find a place to live at, sell my Jeep (as I couldn’t take it because of California-Emission Laws), work the last two weeks after I gave the resignation notice, pack everything, arrange my travel schedules and visit my family in Panama. I got a place to live and had time to pack almost everything. I was left with 14 boxes which just got shipped from Tally to LA. I got my travel arrangements ready, but I didn’t have enough time to sell the Jeep before I left. Thankfuly, Allan and Eduardo helped me and it was sold a week ago! After a very very long trip home, being with my family was a charm. I enjoyed the great company, the food and, most of all, the great feeling that comes from being with my parent and my brother again.

The days came and went fast and I had to leave. On August 17th, I arrived at LAX, tired because of my 10 hour trip(changed planes in Atlanta). I rented a car and drove home. I felt kind of homesick for the first few hours. I had no one to talk to, no one that I knew and nothing to do. I had no computer, just my iPhone. That same day, Vanessa arrived at night. At that time, LAX seemed like a Mexican food market instead of a world-class international airport…I went back home after receiving her and slept.

On Monday, August the 20th, I had the first of many orientation sessions. After a full week of nonstop listening, reviewing and walking around campus to settle stupid little things, I finally got everything done. While the week was very fast and tiresome, I did have time to enjoy the niceties of the USC campus. Fountains everywhere, beautiful architecture, incredible decorations and state of the art technology.

This past Monday we started school. What a feeling, being in a classroom again after more than a year without studying. It couldn’t have gone better, I’m just so excited to be in this courses that no words can convey what I feel. Everything seems so interesting and new, yet so familiar. It is what I’ve been waiting to learn for such a long time that, for the past few days, I’ve felt like I’m in a permanent state of delusion. Needless to say, it is going to be a lot of work, but I’m already working on everything so work won’t accumulate.

Go Trojans!!
